WEST SURREY CC NEW YEAR ACTIVITIES NIGHT

Activities day consisted of the now annual “One Club Golf” on Tillingbourne Links (otherwise known as the school field) at which 20 starters braved the miserable weather and got suitably wet whilst wending their way around the course with a single golf club.
A condition of entry is the formal quaffing of an early morning glass of Mulled Wine, needed to send everyone on course with a warm glow in arctic conditions (author’s licence!!)

Early starters had the best of the weather and late comers (those unable to be up and about before 10.30) performed in the rain. Unfortunately several anticipated starters failed to materialise, preferring to stay dry!!

Unremarkably, the Men’s competition was won by Tony Prosser in 33 hits, closely followed by John King in 34 …………. All men’s scores below.

Amazingly the Ladies competition dragged 10 starters onto the field and even more amazingly Jan Turner managed to bring her ball back to me this time AND produce the best Ladies score with just 36 hits, followed closely by Denise Vaughan on 39.

Undoubtedly the best dressed on course this year was Jackie “Blodwyn” Juett in her perfectly creased flaired slacks. Well that’s how they started anyway.
As it was already very wet this year, we did not add our own lakes and sharks.

Irene and Chairman Bob warmed us all up soon after with soup and a baguette.
The afternoon saw Irene lead a bingo session while we set about the games construction for the evening’

THE EVENING GAMES        NOW KNOWN AS THE “BEANBAG OLYMPICS”

5 games at which each table provided 2 contestants to play against another table.
The games:
Bean Bag 10 pin bowling
Bean Bag hoop targets
Bean Bag “Chukkit in the Bukkit”
Bean Bag Petanque (Boules)
And
Non Bean Bag Shuffle Board

The Table Quiz (results as per separate Results Sheet) continued during the pre refreshment period of the Games.

Following refreshments, catered by Mike 3 and Jan “to perfection” aided by their serving wenches and Pete Dales, the final activity started with Mike 2 and Fliss and their “Name a Flower etc Quiz” incorporating a final twist with a Group SINGING their answer to the song question.
The evening ended with bottled liquids and chocs being presented to the table winners by yours truly Mike 1.

Something a bit different from the dancing night after night routine of previous years, and, I think, well worthwhile if a lot of work all round.
My thanks to my team M4 (marion), M3 and Jan, M2 and Fliss, Irene and Bob and “the Wenches”
